UCAM Case Study: Master Cylinder Component For Bosch Chassis Systems India Ltd

2,085

Machine Configuration: STAMA make Twin Spindle VMC with Rotary Pallet Changer; Controller Fanuc 18iMA

Component to be machined: Master Cylinder

Project Requirement:

  • High productivity.
  • One Rotary Table on each pallet.
  • Operations on two components to be done simultaneously.
  • Machine Output: 2 finished components per cycle.

The solution offered & installed:

Taking into consideration the production requirement and the accuracies involved, UCAM proposed a Multi-Spindle Rotary Table with 4 Spindles on one pallet and a Rotary Production System with 4 fixtures with a high-resolution encoder on the other pallet.

The solution offered to the customer:

Multi-Spindle Rotary Table with Component Fixture

Criticality Involved:

  • STAMA VMC is with Twin Spindle with a center distance of 340mm, tolerance +/- 0.020mm.
  • Swing of Rotary Pallet Changer was very compact – 1500mm.
  • The tooled-up solution was required, including the fixturing.
  • High productivity is required on the machine.

UCAM Solution:

For Multi-Spindle Rotary Table: Due to the compact swing, i.e., 1500mm of machine pallet changer, UCAM had to design a special Rotary Table – 4 Spindle Multi-Spindle Rotary Table with the Center Distance between 1st & 3rd Spindles and 2nd & 4th Spindles as 340mm to match the Machine spindle center distance.

For Rotary Production System: The design was made such that the 1st & 3rd and 2nd & 4th Fixture station was maintained with a center distance of 340mm.

Both the Rotary Production System and Multi-Spindle Rotary Table were supplied with hydraulic fixturing.

A high-resolution encoder was mounted onto the Rotary Production System to get the accuracy of +/- 5.”

Complete Electrical interfacing was done by the UCAM team.

Customer’s Remarks:

Bosch Chassis Systems India Ltd is very happy with the solution provided by UCAM. They are able to get the required productivity on a single machine using UCAM Rotary Tables instead of the multiple setups required for this component.

Bosch Chassis Systems India Ltd is planning to repeat the order to meet the industry requirement of master cylinders.
