Walter Tools: Ideal for stainless steel
Greater process reliability with Walter TC440 Supreme thread formers
Due to their toughness, stainless steels are not always easy to shape, which can lead to process and quality fluctuations when thread forming. With the TC440 Supreme, Walter has developed a thread former especially for stainless steel, which eliminates these fluctuations.
The innovative, patent-pending geometry of the HSS-E thread former is characterized by a stable forming edge as well as a reinforced insert pocket. The stable, asymmetric groove shape counteracts torque forces, increasing the tool life, thread quality, and process reliability. A special post-treatment, in particular smoothing the former surface in multiple steps, reduces the torque, and therefore the torsional force, which also increases process reliability.
Alongside general mechanical engineering, all other users who machine stainless steel also benefit from the long tool life, excellent process reliability, and thread quality of the new formers. Walter offers its customers the TC440 Supreme for ISO M materials (depending on the application smaller than 3.5×DN) in a variety of different tool and coolant versions: With axial internal coolant for blind-hole machining or with radial internal coolant or lubrication grooves for blind-hole and through-hole machining. Either in the dimension ranges metric (M2–M12) or metric fine (M8×1–M16×1.5).
