Tungaloy Enhances TinyMini-Turn Sleeve Lineup for Better Chip evacuation in Miniature Boring Applications
Tungaloy has expanded its TinyMini-Turn solid carbide miniature boring tool system to include a JBBS-4N line of coolant-through sleeves with four coolant holes designed to ensure sufficient coolant supply to the cutting point. Also added are new shank sizes for JBBSA-C sleeves with an integrated collet chuck.
TinyMini-Turn miniature boring tool system consists of solid carbide boring bars and sleeves, offering a total of 146 different geometries for boring, internal profiling, chamfering, grooving, and threading applications in diameters as small as 0.6 mm (.024″). The solid carbide boring bar features a precision ground coated cutting edge and is post-treated with a surface smoothing process to maintain the edge sharpness over an extended period of time. This ensures excellent part quality and precision, as well as process security in all small-diameter bore applications.
The existing TinyMini-Turn system supplies a single stream of coolant from a hole located on the boring bar close to the cutting edge. At times, this single stream of coolant in the small-sized boring bar is not sufficient enough for effective chip evacuation during small diameter boring applications. The new JBBS-C-4N coolant-through sleeve solves these challenges with four coolant holes located on the sleeves end face where the boring bar is inserted. These holes create four streams of coolant jets, delivering an ample amount of coolant precisely to the cutting point. The new coolant-through sleeve provides better chip evacuation from the bore, eliminating chip bird-nesting on the tools or workpiece, while also ensuring process security and long tool life.
An expansion to TinyMini-Turn JBBSA-Cline of boring bar sleeves with a built-in collet chuck includes additions of eight new shank diameter options. Now the line offers 12.0, 14.0, 16.0, 20.0, 22.0, and 25.0 mm metric shanks and 1/2″, 5/8″, 3/4″, and 1″ imperial shanks. A boring bar can easily be changed by operating the clamping cap equipped on the sleeve. In addition, the collet chuck provides full contact gripping on the boring bar shank for higher stability and repeatability over conventional bolt-clamp holders. The sleeve is capable of a through-coolant supply for improved chip evacuation and tool life.
