Kuka : Even more flexible: KR CYBERTECH nano now available with KR C5 micro

Many KUKA customers who are already successfully using in-line robots from the KR CYBERTECH nano family wanted a system that works with electricity directly from the socket. The automation experts from Augsburg have reacted: From April, the new generation of the KR CYBERTECH nano will also run on the KR C5 micro-small robot controller.

Whether PCB assembly, painting, gluing, mechanical processing and polishing, packaging, or inert gas welding: the new generation of KR CYBERTECH nano  robots masters a wide range of challenges. Their qualities also include maximum precision when driving on the track. So far it has harmonized with the KR C5 S-Size . From April 2022, the KR CYBERTECH nano will also run on the KR C5 micro with six installation positions, perfectly suited for a compact cell design. The new combination, which can now be ordered, also enables robot operation without a transformer.

Flexible robot solution without a transformer

Small, flexible, smart: The KR C5 micro supports current fieldbus standards for cell and line integration
The robots of the KR CYBERTECH nano family are in demand above all in the electronics industry. However, they are increasingly conquering other sectors, for example, the food industry. There are also suitable offers for this in the KR CYBERTECH nano family. ” The demand for robot solutions that can be used flexibly for the low payload class of 6 to 10 kg without a transformer is growing,” reports Markus Hollfelder-Asam, portfolio manager at KUKA. “With the KR C5 micro, a normal 220/230 volt socket is suitable for the majority of target applications. This creates more reliability, saves effort and money, for example for the otherwise necessary adjustments to the local infrastructure.”

Precise in every position

Slim design: The handling robot has one of the smallest central handsets in its class
Due to its slim design and compact connector panel, the KR CYBERTECH nano requires less floor space and is also suitable for narrow cells. The KR C5 micro also makes itself small – thanks to its 70% smaller design and the footprint reduced by more than 50% compared to the KR C4 compact. Its size and weight of only 9 kg allow numerous installation options. “The KR CYBERTECH nano fits in any installation position, such as the floor, ceiling, or wall, and at any angle you choose, ” explains Hollfelder-Asam. “The controller moves with you and allows various cabinet, rack, and stand-alone installation positions– up to six different installation positions are possible with the KR C5 micro.”

Save a lot of energy, sacrifice little performance

The bundle of the KR C5 micro small robot controller and the KR CYBERTECH nano family opens up more flexibility
The KR C5 micro has an energy-optimized controller design – in energy-saving mode, energy consumption is reduced by more than 50% compared to the KR C4 compact. Switching from the old to the new generation of the KR CYBERTECH nano is easy for customers because the hole pattern, footprint, flange, and mounting positions on the axles have remained the same. Markus Hollfelder-Asam emphasizes that the switch to the smaller controller entails a small difference in terms of robot characteristics, axis speed, and acceleration. “In a large number of applications of the KR CYBERTECH nano, we see only minor performance reductions with the KR C5 micro in the end,” says Hollfelder-Asam. “However, the new combination has everything that the predecessor on the KR C4 compact was able to do, and often even a little more, and is therefore very attractive in a large number of applications.”

“Exactly what the market ordered”

Ordered from the market: The combination of KR CYBERTECH nano and KR C5 micro is also ideal for limited installation space

The combination with the KR C5 S-Size is only recommended for customers who already drive the highest number of strokes and want to make the most of the dynamic mode. The bundle of KR C5 micro and KR CYBERTECH nano has been available for pre-order since January 15, 2022. Markus Hollfelder-Asam emphasizes: “This combination is exactly what the market ordered. It has many advantages, can be used very sensibly in a limited space and with greater flexibility .”
