Tungaloy has expanded its DrillMeister line of exchangeable head drills to include a drill diameter range from 6.0 mm to 9.9 mm or from .236″ to .390″ for the DMF style drill headline, which is designed for creating flat-bottom holes and for challenging drilling situations such as drilling on inclined or curved surfaces.
DrillMeister is a line of exchangeable head drills designed to provide high-quality holes, which only solid carbide drills can otherwise achieve at a lower cost.
The diameter range of the new DMF drill heads is from 6.0 mm to 9.9 mm (.236″ to .390″), enhancing the existing 10.0 to 19.9 mm (.394″ to .783″) range. The DMF head features a 180-degree cutting edge with a chisel point in the center, which acts as a pilot to generate exceptional hole position and straightness. The drill head can produce high-precision holes up to 8xD in a single operation, eliminating the need for pre-holes.
Since the flat edge geometry initially engages with its outer edge when entering or exiting inclined or curved surfaces, it makes the drill-less susceptible to deflecting, or “walking,” on the surface and more capable of drilling straight holes when compared with the standard drill point with a 140° angle that makes the first contact with such surfaces. Additionally, the ability to exchange drill heads eliminates the need for regrinding and reconditioning, providing flexibility and drill inventory reductions.
The new drill heads are available in AH9130 grade developed specifically for hole-making applications. A good combination of wear and fracture resistance enhances the grade’s tool life and wear prediction.
With the new drill diameter additions, DrillMeister now covers a diameter range from 6.0 mm to 25.9 mm or from .236″ to 1.020″. The drill body sizes are offered in 1.5, 3, 5, 8, and 12xD in three standard shank designs. Five drill head styles are available: DMP designed for general purpose applications, DMC with a self-centering feature for high hole quality, DMH with enhanced drill corners for flange and another thin-wall drilling, DMN developed specifically for drilling aluminum components, and DMF with a flat edge for flat-bottom holes. A total of 13 DMF drill heads have been introduced.
